Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 Released

Beta 2 of Visual Studio 2008 (code name Orcas) is out and available for download from the following URL. This Beta is near feature complete!

Adventures with Longhorn, MOSS and Orcas

Been trying to setup MOSS and Orcas Beta 1 on Longhorn Beta 3 (Windows Server 2008). I was able to successfully setup MOSS and Orcas Beta 1. Beta 3 includes WSS 3.0 and .NET FX 3.0 built into it and these components need to be installed from the OS.

Orcas TFS Beta 1 at the moment still asks for WSS 2.0 SP2 and refused to accept WSS 3.0 as a valid SharePoint. Hopefully Beta 2 should address this issue and allow for installing Orcas TFS with WSS 3.0! More adventures to follow...

WinFX - the new framework from Microsoft which comprised of Workflow Foundation, Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Communication Foundation has been renamed as .NET Framework 3.0

Although the Framework version has been changed, the CLR version still remains at v2.0

WinFX Feb CTP Installation Guide

The February CTP of WinFX has been installed.
Installing WinFX involves four main steps which are to be followed after the installation of the .NET Framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005.

Step1: Download and install the WinFX Runtime - Url

Step2: Download and install the Windows SDK - Url

Step3: Download and install the Workflow Extensions for VS2005 - Url

Step4: Download and install the 'Orcas Extensions' for Visual Studio - Url

There have been cases of the Windows SDK downloads failing a lot or the image getting downloaded with corruption. Refer to Jason's blog for more info.

.NET Enterprise Library v2.0

The Enterprise Library for .NET v2.0 has been in the works for sometime now and there is a release new release that has happened now which supports the RTM release of v2.0

The final release of the for v2.0 would be made in mid Jan 2006. Until then you can grab the bits and play around with it with RTM of VS2005.
